Daylesford Bulldogs' recruit boots seven in win over Gordon in CHFL football

DAYLESFORD unveiled a mid-season recruit during its eighth win of the season against Gordon at the weekend.

Andrew Button, who crossed from Ballarat Football League club Melton last week, booted seven goals in the Bulldogs' 65-point win at Gordon on Saturday.

But Daylesford enters a testing month, starting with a home game against Ballan on Saturday at Victoria Park.

In windy conditions, Daylesford transformed poor accuracy early in the match to make the most of a huge opening term wind advantage.

Daylesford shot out of the blocks early thanks to new key forward Button.

The 2005 Melton captain was dominant up forward early for the Bulldogs, taking many marks and booting two majors before quarter time. The return of Josh Cowan to the line-up also made a difference, his clever play on the

wing and forward flank setting up opportunities for teammates.

With Daylesford leading by 37 points at the first break, the match looked over. But Gordon, kicking with the wind, took up the challenge.

Paul Cook held off the Eagles' charge, setting up goals for his teammates, while Michael Cummings kicked two for the quarter.

In the second half bullocking work by Cade O'Brien was a catalyst for Daylesford's play and youngster Zac Tisdale also impressed.

Button's stunning debut continued with four goals in the third term.

The game was all but over going into the final quarter, with Daylesford keeping up the pressure.
