Sweet Justice in Trentham Golf Club ladies championship

1/07/2008 11:34:00 AM
NOT even shoulder surgery could prevent Gwen Justice from claiming her 23rd Trentham Golf Club ladies championship last week.

Justice defeated Elaine Hanson, 5-3, in the open championship final last Wednesday.

A shoulder operation over summer kept her off the course for seven months, but the veteran showed enough form in her late season comeback to shake off her nearest rivals.

This year the format consisted of two stroke rounds with the semi-final and finals being match play.

Captain Mary Campbell and Veronica Maher fought out the B Grade championship final.

Campbell eventually came out on top to snare a 4-3 win.

Ruth Duffy was the C Grade champion after beating Lynne O'Neill. Duffy recorded a 5-3 victory.

O'Neill won praise from the club after proving to be a more-than-competitive golfer in her first season.
