Hundreds flock to Creswick for rogaining competitions

1/07/2008 11:55:00 AM
NEARLY 800 people are flocking to Creswick for weekly rogaining competitions.

Rogaining is a long distance cross-country navigation sport, with teams of two to five people required to visit as many checkpoints as possible in a time limit.

The Victorian rogaining events consist of two sections, a 24-hour event and a 15-hour event, with competitors aged 50 plus involved.

Co-ordinator Ken Dowling said Creswick was the perfect destination for large-scale rogaining.

Mr Dowling said he was surprised by the capabilities of the older entrants and appreciated their positive feedback about the competition.

Host towns often benefited financially from the Australian-born sport, he said.
